Only through experiencing the good and the bad could they finally say that they know a lot of things, but not one photographer would ever say that they know everything there is to know about weddings and photography. So if you are new in the business, here are just some of the things that you must know. These are just ideas and wedding photography tips that could help you out as you begin.

One: always ask the bride and the groom to bring something that has a meaning for both of them like the first stuffed toy that the groom won for her at a fair or a T-shirt to a game that they went to for the first time as a couple.

Two: always bring more than one photographer. Minimum should be two photographers. This is to make sure that all the shots could be taken. There are some photographers who work alone and totally missed out on taking pictures of the first kiss between the bride and the groom simply because he was in the middle of loading film into the camera. So avoid mishaps like this and bring someone else along. If you can’t take the shot, at least the other photographer will.

Three: learn to keep a low profile when you take pictures. Some photographers get so blatant with their actions that the couple get conscious of their presence. If they are not even aware that you are around taking pictures the better the results for capturing the genuine expressions on their faces.

Four: try to create a custom engagement session so the history of the couple before they met and during their courtship could be put together as part of the album or video.

Five: when you have to do the group pictures don’t let them wait for so long for you to take a shot. Major mistake for some photographers is to make the people prepare and then make them wait. By the time the shot is taken the looks on the people’s faces are harried looking or anxious. What you can do is to ask everyone to relax and stand or sit in their assigned places and then when the camera is ready ask them to close their eyes. Let them count to three and open, then take the shot.

Six: Traditional wedding photographs can be seen as boring and much of the same thing. Talk to the couple on a theme that they want to incorporate into their pictures and see if they have any ideas they may want included.

Seven: Before the wedding, talk to the couple about what they want the pictures to come out as. And then coach them on what they could do during the ceremony itself. Example: ask them to focus on each other rather than the priest or the pastor. Tell them that they are marrying each other and not the one officiating the ceremony. This would result to a much more romantic looking picture.

As a professional photographer, one of the most important acts is to make sure that all the equipment is in tip top shape. This would include making sure that there are extra battery packs and wedding photography lenses available, just in case, or that there are extra supply of film that could be resorted to, again just in case. The worst thing that could happen for a bride and groom are pictures not taken because the package only included a certain number of shots or that the photographer ran out of film.

Anything could go wrong in a wedding shoot, anything could surprise anyone. An unexpected dip to the floor of the groom kissing the bride can be totally missed out if the photographer is not observant. Photographers should be quick to the draw and they should snap on the unexpected as if they expected it.

Another thing to consider is the schedule. Do not make the mistake of booking two weddings hours close to each other. If necessary, book one for the morning and one in the afternoon and make sure that there is time to spare. It would not seem right if the photographer could be seen running out of one unfinished wedding event because the other one is just about to begin.

Flexibility of the time schedule is appreciated by the wedding party and if it means having to stay at the reception until it ends, do so. If the party says that it is alright to go as there was nothing more to be done, then take advantage of it.

It must be understood that as the photographer, the day of the wedding is special, so it is just right that the day is dedicated to the occasion and there should be no rush involved in the taking of the pictures.
